The Rio Grande peach tree is a variety suited for the warmer climates of the southern/gulf coast states. They need clear hot weather for good production and do not tolerate extreme cold. It produces a medium-large sized, freestone peach. The fruit is yellow with a red blush, and is juicy with a delicate flavor. This variety requires heavier pruning for the owner to maintain the desired size of the tree and to encourage it to grow. Self fertile. 450 chill hours. Zones 7-9.
